Maya sport.

Chasing a great ball of fire, performers play an exhibition game resembling an ancient Maya sport.

The Maya heyday lasted from about A.D. 250 to 900, and their domain included what is now Guatemala as well as parts of Mexico and Belize.

Though the rules of such games are unknown, monumental stone ball courts were prominent features of Maya cities. The game is believed to have had religious overtones and, at least occasionally, to have involved human sacrifice.
